Choose your own backing wood and tapered core with a Lemon Wood belly. Hickory is a classic, tried and tested backing wood, purple heart is a excellent core wood and lemon wood arguably has the best characteristics for a belly wood. A beautiful contrast with the creamy, golden grain of hickory set against the dense deeply coloured Purple heart and soft yellow of the lemon wood makes this a really stunning longbow. One of our favorite laminates, the performance is great and is Well suited to heavy bows.. But there are other great backings and cores available here with just as good performance and reliability. The available backings we've refined to the best available for wooden traditional bows - Hickory, Ash and Maple. The cores available are American Cherry, Black Walnut, Jatoba, Yew and Purple Heart. A stunning combination what ever you choose. For more images see the gallery. The bows shown here are hickory backed with a purple heart core and a Jatoba core.
We love the English longbow, its iconic and deadly, used by our ancestors for a very, very long time, even resisting the firearms that's eventually superseded it. The style is the Medieval war bow, which has slightly different design features to a butt/target bow. The medieval style offers bows of heavier weights far more security, whilst spreading the higher forces across more of the bow and slightly through the handle. This is called full compass. All the bows are tilered to full compass for strength and security without compromising on performance. The length of the bow varies, most of my mid weight bows are around 74"- 76", heavier bows go up to 80". Don't get to wrapped up in this as a longer bow is a safer bow and smoother to shoot, unless your very small in which case email us, otherwise we'll make the call on length relevant to the poundage you choose.
